He was born on October 8, 1960, in Ankara. He completed his primary and secondary education in Ankara. In 1983, he graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine with a degree in Medicine. From 1983 to 1985, he fulfilled his mandatory state service in Gaziantep. In 1988, he started his specialization in the Department of Neurosurgery at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine. In 1990, he attended educational programs organized by The British Council in Glasgow and Edinburgh, as well as in Warnemünde, Germany in 1989, Zaragoza, Spain in 1991, Jerusalem, Israel in 1992, and Bruges, Belgium in 1993, which were organized by the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS). In 1994, he participated in training courses organized by the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) in Antalya, Turkey. He visited the Glasgow Institute of Neurological Sciences in 1990, the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Pittsburgh in 1992, the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Virginia in 1992, the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Washington in 1992, the Division of Neurosurgery at the Toronto Western Hospital in 1994, and the Department of Neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1994, where he conducted clinical studies. In February 1994, he became a specialist in Neurosurgery. In March 1994, he completed his master’s degree in Neurophysiology at Marmara University Institute of Health Sciences. In September 1994, he completed the fifth educational course of the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS) in İzmir, Turkey, and obtained the EANS diploma by passing the exams. He also took and passed the European Board of Neurosurgery Primary Examination on the same date.

In 1988, he began his specialization in the Department of Neurosurgery at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine.

Assoc. Prof.Dr. Ali ZIRH returned from the United States in 1997 and started working at VKV American Hospital, where he performed functional neurosurgery interventions using the Microelectrode Recording and Stimulation technique, which is performed at only a few centers worldwide at the single-cell level.

He also performed Deep Brain Stimulation procedures. Starting from January 2009, he began working at Medicalpark Bahçelievler Hospital, where he conducted these procedures in a healthcare institution where patients covered by the Social Security Institution could also benefit from them.

As of January 2015, Dr. Ali ZIRH continued surgical interventions at Medipol Mega University Hospital. Starting from September 2018, he has been conducting examinations at Medipol University Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center (PARMER). With over 34 years of clinical and surgical experience in the field of Functional Brain Surgery, he has successfully performed over 1500 surgical interventions for Parkinson’s and other Movement Disorders and more than 1000 Deep Brain Stimulation surgeries.Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali ZIRH has become a leading figure in movement disorder surgery in Turkey, and his center has become an International Education and Reference center for these surgeries, both locally and internationally.

Assoc. Prof.Dr. Ali Zırh has numerous publications in international journals, eight book chapters, and more than 150 conference presentations.
